Abstract

This research article arises from a study on autofiction as a methodological strategy in character development within the research-creation process in the performing arts. The qualitative methodology underpinned the artistic practice through research and autoethnography, which led to the creation of the character 'Sara' in the performance "One in Parts." The process was systematized using reflective records and a scene matrix to analyze relationships among emerging emotions, psychophysical actions, sensory objects and materials, and their connection to personal experience. The results demonstrated that autofiction articulates the performer's subjective experience with fictionalization procedures, granting the character scenic autonomy. Similarly, the object and tactile experience organized physical actions and activated emotions. Using the concepts of autofiction, creation, and affective touch, traditional models of character development were questioned. The study concluded that autofiction produces artistic knowledge, provided valid methodologies and strategies are applied. Keywords: autofiction, performing arts, character development, creation.
