Abstract

Abstract
This historical article analyzes the relationship between industrial development and urban housing configuration in Guadalajara, Jalisco, from its beginnings until 1976. Using a qualitative methodology based on residential patterns, working-class housing models, and urban expansion. The study is grounded in critical urban theory, particularly the concepts of the production of space and the urbanization of capital, and identifies territorial structures that continue to influence contemporary urban configuration. The relationship between industry and housing has been a determining factor in the urban configuration of Guadalajara, Jalisco, from its founding to the present day. Initially, this relationship began with the indigenous neighborhoods that provided labor for the Spanish city, and later with an activity considered polluting: the movement of livestock, due to its strategic location within the territory. Since then, this relationship between housing and work has historically shaped the city's development. Patterns of industrial location and housing production for the working-class population are identified through a qualitative approach based on historical sources, cartography, and previous studies, as well as direct interviews with former factory employees and neighborhood residents. Structural changes in Guadalajara's urban growth model are highlighted, particularly with the consolidation of its industrial zone in the mid-20th century.
